Time lapse video: a mesmerizing way to showcase views from your hotel

For hotels with lots of activity taking place outside their windows, time lapse photography is a mesmerizing way to engage travelers, to showcase views of your property and destination and to generate content that, when well executed, can go viral.

Here are three examples of time lapse videos from hotels in three of the most vibrant cities in the world: New York, Sydney and Hong Kong.

The video above, “Manhattan in Motion”, was shot by Josh Owens of Mindrelic in New York from 11 hotels in Manhattan over a six-week period from March 12 to April 29.

The project was spearheaded on behalf of 11 hotels by Shiseido Ruiz, Social Media Manager with Highgate Hotels. He says the video received almost 100,000 views in three days and has had over 36,000 Facebook shares. "Our Daily Active Users on Facebook for all hotels have doubled for last week due to the traffic," says Ruiz.

Ten more videos are scheduled to be released from the shoot, but so far only the Hilton New York Fashion District time lapse has been made public.

This second time lapse was shot from the 111th and 118th floors of the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Hong Kong, the tallest hotel in the world, by Chris Anderson of AOL Travel.

This third time lapse was shot in one night by Philip Bloom from room 3513 of the Shangri-la Hotel in Sydney. For insight into how he did it, check out Philip’s blog.
